Tuesday 26th April

  • 04:50 Cryo problem in point 2. End of fill 1736
  • 08:00 Cryo recovered.

8:30 meeting

Monday 25th April

  • 12:00 150 pb-1 in 2011
  • 13:30: dump fill 1735, 20 pb-1 integrated luminosity.
  • 16:20: Stable beams fill 1736, 480 b/72b per injection. Initial luminosity up to ~4.3x1032 cm-2 s-1  (ATLAS)/~4x1032 cm-2 s-1 (CMS).
  • 20:40 Beam dump due to losses induced by vacuum spike on vacuum gauge close to triplet R8. End of fill #1736
  • 23:45 Stable beams fill 1736, 480 b/72b per injection. Initial luminosity up to ~4.8x1032 cm-2 s-1  (ATLAS)/~4.4x1032 cm-2 s-1 (CMS).

9:00 meeting

Sunday 24th April

  • 06:20 Power glitch. End of fill #1732. Close to 24 pb-1 after ~18 h in physics
    • New record integrated luminosity in one day (UTC time): 25.6 pb-1
    • 132 pb-1 delivered so far
  • Recovery from power glitch. Access for QHPS RB.23. 4 collimator to be reset (resolver positions).
  • 13:00-15:00 Loss maps to injection to check collimators.
  • 15:00 Filling 1733, 480 b with 72 b per injection. Slow filling due to 800 MHz problem in the SPS.
  • 16:30 Stable beams 1733, dumped after 10 minutes by vacuum spike R8 (sector triplet-Q4 R8). Hypothesis is that spike is due to out-gassing of the gauges (following the cryo problem of last week).
  • Interlock levels of the gauges set temporarily to 4E-6.
  • 19:30 Filling  480 b with 72 b per injection, drop intensity by 10%.
  • 21:00 Stable beam fill 1735, 480 b/72b per injection. Initial luminosity up to ~4.8x1032 cm-2 s-1  (ATLAS)/~4.4x1032 cm-2 s-1 (CMS).

Saturday 23rd April

  • 07:40 Beam dump. Integrated luminosity 15 pb-1 in one fill - new LHC record.
  • Integrated luminosity in 2011 > 100 pb-1.
  • Important blow-up during filling due to large drift in chromaticity. Dump and re-fill
  • 10:20 Beam 1 kicker not firing due to missing pre-pulse. Beam (36 bunches) on TDI cleanly
  • 12:30 Stable beams #1732. 480  bunches/beam. Initial luminosity up to ~5.2x1032 cm-2 s-1  (ATLAS)/~4.8x1032 cm-2 s-1 (CMS).

Friday 22nd April

  • 06:55 Beam dump (LHCb movement). End of physics #1729 - ~9pb-1 after 7 hours.
  • 11:37 Stable beams #1730 - (336 bunches - trains of 72 bunches) - initial luminosity 3.1x1032 cm-2s-1.
  • 16:00 Beam dumped. PC fault.
  • 19:10: Stable beams fill 1731. 480  bunches/beam. Initial luminosity up to ~4.8x1032 cm-2 s-1  (ATLAS)/~4.5x1032 cm-2 s-1 (CMS).

Thursday 21st April

  • 07:30: End of fill #1727. Beam dumped. ALICE compensator magnet fault. Delivered ~6.7 pb-1 in 7.5 h.
  • 11:30 Stable beam #1728. 480  bunches/beam. Initial luminosity up to ~4.0x1032 cm-2 s-1.
  • 20:10 End of physics #1728 - 9.7 pb-1 in 8.6 h. 15.2 pb-1 in 24 hours
  • 23:55 STABLE BEAMS #1729 - 4.8(ATLAS)/4.4(CMS)x1032 cm-2s-1 WORLD RECORD IN PEAK LUMINOSITY IN A HADRON COLLIDER

8:30 meeting

Wednesday 20th April

  • 23:30-03:30 - Recover and pre-cycle (2 ventilation doors were open)
  • 03:20-07:00: Loss maps in collision (-500 Hz)
  • 07:00-13:00: TDI alignment
  • 13:30-15:00: Ramp 336b with 72b/injection. Beam lost around 3 TeV due to horizontal instability (dump on BLM @ TCSG IR7).
  • 16:00-19:30: No beam. VIP visit.
  • 21:30: Ramp 336b with 72b/injection.
  • 00:00: Stable beams, fill 1727. First time with 72b/train.

8:30 meeting

Tuesday 19th April

  • 05:30: Stable beams fill 1722, L ~3.3E32 cm-2s-1.
  • 11:10: Beam dumped. 5.7 pb-1 IR1/5.
  • 11:10-23:30 Problem with cryo in pt8 - PLC
  • 12:00-18:00 Accesses in the machine. Optimization of the 50 ns beam in the injectors. Compensator in point 2 back in operation.
  • 23:30 Cryo OK

8:30 meeting

Monday 18th April

  • 00:06 Beams dumped when injecting third 72b batch for beam 2. Kicker flash-over. Many BLM’s interlocked, LHCb BCM triggered, several magnets tripped, vacuum valves closed, cryo lost in 78 and 81.
  • Kicker had a spark after 1.5 micro-s, while injecting the 72b batch. First 36b part OK, wrong kick for second 36b part.
  • Since then: Recovery. Cryo OK. Vacuum OK. Collimators OK.
  • Morning: extended kicker conditioning.
  • 13:00 Beams back in the LHC.
  • 13:00-18:00: TDI alignment check
  • Solenoids on around MKIs in IR8 and IR2.
  • 19:00: Test ramp after COD RT trim feed-forward for ramp and squeeze.
  • Loss map in collisions with dFrf = +500 Hz.
  • 21:15: Filling for physics, 336 bunches, 36b/inj.
  • 22:45: Stable beams fill 1721, L ~3.1E32 cm-2s-1.
  • 00:25: dumped by SIS interlock, HOM power interlock (communication).
  • 01:30: TOTEM beam interlock. Rack power off.
