2009 - potential performance
Let's say 4 weeks to establish first collisions at 5 TeV, optimistically this would be completed by mid-October.
Finish 20th December say - 65 days for physics - absolute maximum
Enter into pilot physics phase for 30 days:
- Interleaved physics and commissioning
- Push number of bunches, intensity, squeeze…
- up to a maxiumum of 156 x 156 bunches with say 4 x 1010 protons per bunch β* = 4 m.
- Peak luminosity: ~1.2 x 1031
- Integrated: few pb-1
Pushing the bunch intensities with 156 x 156 with reasonable operational efficiency for another 30 days would see 30-40 pb-1
- 8 hour fill length, 4 hour turn around, 20 hour luminosity lifetime, 30 days of physics
- 5 1031 luminosity with 9 x 1010 protons per bunch β* = 4 m. (or variation)
- gives around 40 pb-1 with 60% operational efficiency
Take out 15 days for access, cryogenics etc.
